Les petites marguerites (Sedmikrasky)
Vera Chytilova / Tchécoslovaquie / 1962

Two sisters: Marie 1 and Marie 2 annoyed about endlessly hearing that the world is awful and that they are awful, decide to play the game wholehearted. At least these reproaches will be deserved. They devote themselves to cheekiness, to chaos and to scandal. Alluring, unusual, insolents, nonconformists, in a set of scenes as short as explosives, they ridicule old enterprising men, get drunk with whisky, sow panic into a nightclub, mess up the preparation of a wonderful diner. From time to time, they stop their crazy behaviors to question themselves on the values and meaning of life, on fragility of appearances...
For its dadaist nature, its ludic constitution, for its spontaneous imagination, this film represents a lesson on a truly artistic rebellion. By living this work, you will discover a rare feminine voice of the Czech New Wave, and on the deprivation of society. This philosophic and absurd burlesque is a true anarchistic alien that explores a surrealistic inspiration which is not showed enough in cinema. It is simply...some cinematographic poetry.
