In a little Czech town in the surroundings
of Prague, the daily life of the young falls apart into
the monotony of the usual Saturday night dances. This is
the case of Andula's life, an appealing and vigorous blond
girl, who works as her friends do, in the shoe factory
of the neighborhood. Her meeting with Milda, the pianist
of the orchestra, is the beginning of a love story...
Milos Forman, the Czech- American director,
several times awarded an Oscar, makes us discover an “ordinary” love
story, in a style which philosophy reminds of “truth-cinema.” As
writes the director in his autobiography... “ When
I look at my first films, I see them as an attempt to see
clearer.”
However, this is not only about a love story.
On these basis, Forman creates a larger and more universal
enunciation. The enunciation of the society of the time,
of its way of living, an enunciation of an “ordinary” human
life...
