European youth voluntary service

The European project

Acting to make cultural barriers fall thanks to its artistic line, the association naturally developed actions for the benefit of European youth.

In 2004, the association was accredited by the European Commission as a welcoming organization for European Voluntary Service.

Since the beginning of the 90’s, the European Commission has developed a Youth European Programme comprising 5 types of action.

Since 2003-2004, Aye Aye V.O has taken part in 2 out of these 5 actions and regularly participated in trainings and seminars to have a first contact with other organizations, mostly from Eastern Europe.

Since 2004, the association has welcomed 1 to 4 European volunteer per year. These volunteers mainly come from central, eastern and south-east Europe.

In addition, the association has also developed 4 European exchange programmes, each involving about 20 young adults (French and foreigners). Thus, about 80 young Europeans benefited from these actions. The latter, strongly supported by the European Commission, have often been at the origin of partnerships, not only with local organizations, but also with the city of Nancy.

These European actions initiated by “Aye Aye VO” permit to develop a sense of active citizenship, tolerance, and solidarity with young Europeans and incite them to play an active part in the future of the European Union'.

The importance of this international dimension allows us to think of a new form of development for Europe, resting on non-governmental organizations.

Implementers of the project : Anthony Folkmann. After a voluntary service experience in Russia, Anthony decided to study Russian at INALCO (National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations) in Paris. A volunteer worker with our Association since 2008, he was elected vice president in 2010 and he is a tutor for European volunteers received by the association as well.

"Draw Me Europe" - Nancy, September 2011

From September 1st to September 11th 2011, "Association Aye Aye VO" invites young people from 3 countries (Hungary, Germany, France) to discuss the subject of comic strips and youth literature. ¶

The aim of this project is to sensitize participants to intercultural problems and European citizenship. More precisely it is about bringing young European adults to better perceiving their responsibility towards children and also about leading them to communicate with young people (3-15 years old) through the channels of books, comic strip, films, albums, and exhibitions.

Meetings, before, during and after the project will take place between children and participants in order to sensitize them to European "interculturality".

A documentation and research job will be carried out in each participating country prior to the project" youth literature and cinema for young audiences".

A presentation of the progress of work will make it possible to exchange views with children and adults audiences.

Moreover, the various groups will be able to meet with professionals or people experienced in the fields of literature and films for young people at the various stages of the project.

At the same time, within the framework of the "Aye Aye" film festival, the participants will constitute a jury of young Europeans; ¶they will have to select two films for the prize list and thus will try their hands at a "democratic selection process".
